Though The Windstorm was two months ago, the vestiges of the storm are still with us. Fallen trees and limbs are still being ground up into mulch. One of the grinding operations has been on Sierra Madre Blvd., just east of PHS. The mulch mountain there is big -- probably 30 feet tall.
At one point, I read where the mulch was available for use. But, recently I heard just the opposite -- that the mulch is being trucked away to a landfill. Anyone know what's really happening with this stuff? .

My neighbor just talked to one of the truck drivers waiting to haul mulch away from the SMV debris basin location. He said they take it to their mulch distribution center in Corona. So my neighbor looked it up:

Free mulch is available at the Jackie Robinson Center 'til 3pm every day in February to anyone who has the means to haul it away. I imagine most of it is coming from these mountains.

Our city rep told me that some of it is being trucked to the site in Corona mentioned. The excuse: some Pasadenans were putting non-green waste into their piles, so that mulch has been designated as "toxic waste." I don't buy that excuse, frankly. I think it's more likely that the city isn't inclined to spend the time and money necessary to find ways to use the mulch. A city our size could use every cubic inch of the mulch if it chose to. But it would require a concerted effort. Just my opinion.
