Industrial Poppies

Early yesterday morning I was driving down Walnut Street and saw that someone had seeded the roadside with poppies.  After the rains, the flowers are now in bloom and stretch along the road for hundreds of yards.

The brilliant colors of the poppies stand out in this otherwise industrial gray part of town.  To the right of the photo is the Avon shipping yard filled with big rigs.  On the other side of  the street are smaller businesses and the new Grandahl lumber yard.   I think the strip of land is part of an old railroad right of way.  Don't know who owns the land or who planted the flowers.   But, whoever they are, they definitely deserve a "caught being nice" award.   Thank you to whoever you are.

That's so beautiful! I'm going to make a detour to look at it. Much closer than the Lancaster poppy reserve. There were poppies on the 710 freeway stub that ends at California Boulevard but Caltrans recently removed them for a "beautification scheme" that's left the slopes bare.

I saw these just a couple of days ago and planned to circle back for a photo. Now I don't need to.

Work of the guerilla gardeners, perhaps.

The CA state flower. Aren't these an endangered species here in our state!

Thanks for the comments.

Bellis: Been to the Lancaster poppy reserve and it is incredible. Apparently in the old days, Altadena was kind of like that in the Spring.

Hiker: I thought this might be the work of some guerilla gardners. Have an email into Ann/PIO to find out what she knows.

Cafe: Don't know about the endangered part, but they are a sedative.

PA: You know I felt an urge to lay down and take a nap. Big Oz fan here.
