The Toyon is blooming.

And the bees know it

Where did you find this toyon? I haven't seen any in bloom yet.

We have two here in east Pas - a mature tree and a young volunteer. Both are in bloom and you can hear the bees buzzing when you walk by.

Great macro shot. Yes seen the Toyon last year at Eaton canyon & bees were all over it. To bad no area there to put some of my bee rescues to have them sample the nectars/pollens.

I'm sure the feral hives are picking up the slack w/ the abundant growth this year El Nino provided.

I'm happy to see the bees happy. We need more plants to entertain them and keep them from dying. Is toyon something I could plant in my yard?

Hi David: A beeman too? Should have known.

Hi Petrea: You know I really like our Toyon and enjoy the one at Earthside too. Not exactly fine fare, but the red berries they produce are edible and our kids actually like to eat them as they raisin. They're native trees and, in my limited experience grow like weeds.
